The Ukrainian Green Party will participate in the parliamentary elections in 2012.

Such a decision was taken at the 21st extraordinary congress of the party in Kyiv on December 17, the party’s press service reported.

A resolution on the party’s participation in the elections was unanimously supported by all of the delegates at the congress.

"Despite an actually discriminatory election law with respect to the vast majority of parties in Ukraine – potential participants in the elections and their voters, the Green Party of Ukraine will make every effort to overcome artificially created legislative obstacles and take an active part in the 2012 elections," the party’s leader, Denys Moskal, said.

He said that the party already had the experience of overcoming the five-percent threshold, garnering 5.43% of the vote in the parliamentary elections in 1998.
