Kravchuk: Only European court can take democratic decision on Tymoshenko case

Only a European court can take a democratic decision on a criminal case opened against former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, and Ukraine should treat such a decision with respect, first Ukrainian President Leonid Kravchuk (1991-1994) told Channel 5 on December 30.

"In my opinion, the European Court [of Human Rights] will take a democratic decision on Tymoshenko. And how should Ukraine treat it? I think that it should treat it with respect. For some reason I don't believe that our judicial system can change anything and show that it is guided by values and humanism, without forgetting about the letter of the law. But the law must be modern, and this should not be the law of 1960," Kravchuk said.
