Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn has said that the ninth session of the Ukrainian parliament was fruitful.

"If we take the statistics, dear people's deputies, then according to the statistics, it was one of the most fruitful sessions. We planned to consider 807 questions, and we also put 143 more bills on the agenda during the session. In all, this was more than a thousand bills," Lytvyn said before closing the ninth session of the Verkhovna Rada on Friday, Jan. 13.

He said that the parliament had held 48 plenary meetings.

"I must say that we had fewer conflicts and confrontations at this session. Five plenary sessions, for various reasons and for the reasons of political activity, were not held," Lytvyn said.

He said that during the session, parliament took decisions on 699 bills and passed 191 laws, 67 bills, and added that 441 bill had been returned for revision.

The speaker noted that the number of bills returned by parliament for revision by the Cabinet of Ministers had increased.

Lytvyn said that about 900 bills, which the parliament will have to consider at its tenth session, had already been registered.

"So I would ask committees to ensure smooth work so that in February we can have the bills prepared for consideration," he said.
