KHARKIV - Former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko, who is serving a seven-year prison sentence at the Kachanivska penal colony in Kharkiv, is still walking with the help of her cellmate, the head of the colony, Ivan Pervushkin, has said.

"She is walking with the help of her cellmate," Pervushkin told reporters on Monday.

He added that the management of the colony hopes that Tymoshenko will change her mind and agree to undergo an examination by experts from the Health Ministry of Ukraine.

"We still hope that these visits [by the Health Ministry commission and experts] will give positive results and she will undergo an examination some day. I bear personal responsibility for health of every person in the colony, and that is why we invite experts – maybe she will agree to undergo examination and we will receive reliable information about her health condition," Pervushkin said.

The head of the Health Ministry’s commission, Halyna Siroshtan, said on Monday that Tymoshenko had again rejected an examination.

The doctor said that Tymoshenko has undergone five massage therapies by a masseur Tymoshenko trusts.

"Tymoshenko’s personal masseur, in the presence of an expert from our healthcare department, massages her. According to our physiotherapy expert, [Tymoshenko is undergoing] general massage therapy. There are no results as of today. As a rule, positive changes usually appear after the ninth or tenth session of massage therapy. Twenty massage sessions are recommended," Siroshtan said.

She added that the ministry’s commission recommended that Tymoshenko move more, but she has refused to do remedial exercises.

On Oct. 11, 2011, Pechersky District Court in Kyiv sentenced Tymoshenko to seven years in prison for abuse of office in signing a gas deal with Russia in 2009.

Tymoshenko was put in a pre-trial detention center in Kyiv on Aug. 5, 2011. On Dec. 30, she was transferred to Kachanivska penal colony No. 54 in Kharkiv.

Kyiv’s Shevchenkivsky District Court ordered the arrest of Tymoshenko under the UESU case.

Because of this, Tymoshenko is being held in the pretrial detention center of the Kachanivska colony in Kharkiv and is not involved in community work.
