Yevheniya Tymoshenko, the daughter of former Ukrainian Prime Minister, spoke on Wednesday at a hearing in the U.S. Senate entitled "Ukraine at a Crossroads: What's at Stake for the U.S. and Europe?", according to a statement posted Tymoshenko's Web site.

"Political repression is continuing, and my mother is only the most striking example of selective application of criminal law. This is a big challenge for the further democratic development in Ukraine," Tymoshenko said.

She also told participants in the hearing that the regime of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych was continuing to put pressure on her family, particularly through the renewal of persecution of her father and grandfather.

In addition, she spoke about the persecution of Tymoshenko’s colleagues.

She said that that the Ukrainian authorities had put former governor of Kharkiv region and leader of the regional branch of the Batkivschyna Party Arsen Avakov on the international wanted list.

"I’m asking you to use all of the possible means of influence in order to explain the consequences of such actions to the Yanukovych regime," she added.

The hearing of the Subcommittee on European Affairs of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the U.S. Senate was also attended by Ukrainian MP Serhiy Vlasenko, a defense lawyer for the former prime minister.
