You're reading: Canada insists on high qualification of its doctors that examined Tymoshenko

Joseph Lavoie, a spokesman for Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird, has said that the three Canadian members of the medical team that examined former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in Kachanivska penal colony are highly qualified practitioners, Tymoshenko's Web site reported on Saturday, quoting Radio Liberty.

According to Lavoie, the doctors conducted Tymoshenko’s examination in line with the highest medical standards, especially in terms of objectivity and ethics.

He also stressed that the Canadian medical team’s findings were in no way influenced by any external factors.

Earlier, Tymoshenko’s defense team said that the Ukrainian Health Ministry questioned the qualifications of foreign doctors who were members of the international commission that conducted the examination of the former prime minister, in particular those of the Canadian physicians.

On Feb. 14-15, a commission of German, Canadian and Ukrainian experts examined Tymoshenko in the Kachanivska penal colony in Kharkiv.
