You're reading: Opposition asks Yanukovych to dismiss Tabachnyk

A draft resolution proposing that Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych dismiss Minister of Education and Science, Youth and Sports Dmytro Tabachnyk has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada.

The document, which has been posted on the Web site of the Ukrainian parliament, was submitted for consideration by the leadership of parliament on Monday.

The initiators of the bill are Vice Speaker Mykola Tomenko, leader of the BYT-Batkivschyna faction in parliament Andriy Kozhemiakin and leader of the Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense faction in parliament Mykola Martynenko.

Earlier on Monday, Tomenko said that the opposition would insist on its demand that the president dismiss Tabachnyk as education minister.

The leader of the Regions Party faction in parliament, Oleksandr Yefremov, in turn, described this demand as another smear campaign.

He also said that Tabachnyk’s dismissal was the prerogative of the president and the Cabinet of Ministers.
