Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that he supports the revision of criminal cases including that against former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko after the adoption of the new Criminal Procedure Code.

"I believe that that we should have all these cases considered again from the point of view of the new Criminal Procedure Code, which will comply with all European standards," he said in an interview with three Ukrainian TV channels on Friday evening.

Asked to comment on the fact that Tymoshenko’s case impedes the European integration of Ukraine, Yanukovych said that he was interested in having "the right decision" made.

"Who has this issue hurt most in Ukraine and will hurt more? I’ll tell you, it is me. I’m very interested that we should get the right solution," he said.

As reported, a draft Criminal Procedure Code proposed by the president is already in the Verkhovna Rada. The parliamentary majority forecasts that it will be adopted in March.
