You're reading: Medvedchuk says he returns to public politics

Former leader of the Social-Democratic Party of Ukraine (united) and former head of the presidential administration of Ukraine (2002-2005), Viktor Medvedchuk, in a video posted on his page in Facebook, has stated that he is returning to public politics.

"I’m returning to public politics not for the sake of the elections, as I strongly believe that all things that take place are not the result of elections, but the result of our mistakes during elections," Medvedchuk said.

He said that participation in and fighting elections might now be different.

"Moreover, when I was distant from politics, I tried not to participate in the country’s politics to some extent. Today it’s time not just to assert myself, but come with those ideas, which, in my opinion, and you confirmed this in your commentaries, are important," he said.

Medvedchuk added that election is not the main thing "as it comes 20 years after the independence of our country."

"It’s not essential whom we vote for, but how we can influence those receiving power after the election and forget what they promised to give after the election," he said.

Medvedchuk said he would announce his ideas in public to the media soon, so as to start a discussion on the issue.
