You're reading: Lawyer: Court hearings on debt case against Tymoshenko to start on April 19

Kyivsky District Court of Kharkiv will start a preliminary hearing on a criminal case against former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko concerning the activities of the United Energy Systems of Ukraine (UESU) Corporation at 10.00 on April 19, according to Tymoshenko's defense lawyer Oleksandr Plakhotniuk.

"Preliminary hearing on the UESU case is scheduled for 10.00 on April 19," the lawyer told Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.

As reported, Tymoshenko is accused of appropriating and attempting to appropriate property that did not belong to her (state funds) via abuse of office and official forgery, evasion from paying taxes of the UESU Corporation, which lead to the lack of funds received by the national budget, as well as income tax evasion, which lead to serious consequences. These actions were preceded by concealing from the government the UESU’s foreign currency income of $160 million from exports of metal.
