The Defense Ministry of Ukraine is paying special attention to restoring the aircraft equipment of the country's Air Force, the ministry's press service reported on Friday.

The current speed of the repair of the Air Forces’ aviation equipment is the highest in almost ten years, the press service quoted Defense Minister Dmytro Salamatin as saying.

On April 6, two MiG-29 aircraft were returned to the Armed Force of Ukraine after repairs.

"These aircraft will join the fleet of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which will be involved in ensuring the security of [Ukrainian] airspace during the Euro 2012 finals," the press service said.

Another two MiG-29 fighters will return to the Defense Ministry’s fleet by the end of May. Work is being completed on an Il-76 military transport aircraft and the modernization of an Su-24M bomber is coming to an end, the defense ministry said.

The repair of two L-39 aircraft will be completed in June; twelve aircraft of this type will be repaired, and another four upgraded by the end of the year.

In addition, Mi-8, Mi-24 and Mi-2 helicopters will be repaired soon, and state tests of a Mi-24P helicopter upgraded at the Aviakon aircraft repair plant are coming to an end, the ministry said.
