Ukrainian ombudsperson Nina Karpachova has confirmed that former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko sustained physical injury, according to Front for Change Party leader Arseniy Yatseniuk.

"On the order of Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Nina Karpachova, on April 24, the commissioner’s representative, [deputy head of the department of the ombudsperson’s secretariat Serhiy] Kudruk, visited Tymoshenko without any warning. According to the text of the statement, it has been confirmed that Yulia Volodymyrivna Tymoshenko sustained physical injury," he said, while reading out Karpachova’s statement at a press conference on Wednesday.

"The incumbent human rights commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is demanding that the Ukrainian prosecutor general open a criminal case and suspend from the fulfillment of duties those involved in the ill-treatment of Yulia Tymoshenko during her transportation to the hospital," Yatseniuk said.

As reported, on April 24, the Verkhovna Rada elected government commissioner for the European Court of Human Rights Valeria Lutkovska as a new ombudsperson. She will assume office after she takes the oath.
