Kyiv, May 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Leaders of some countries are planning to discuss the situation in Ukraine and its relations with the European Union on the summit of Visegrad Group countries opened on May 5 in Slovakia.

According to a posting on the official Web site of Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski, Komorowski, Czech President Vaclav Klaus and Slovakian President Ivan Gasparovic will take part in the summit. Hungarian Ambassador to Slovakia Csaba Balogh will participate in the summit instead of newly elected Hungarian President Janos Ader who will take office on May 10, 2012.

“The EU-Ukraine relations in the context of the internal situation in Ukraine and Russia-EU relations will be among the topics of the Slovakian summit,” reads the report.

In addition, Polish, Czech and Slovakian presidents will discuss issues of regional cooperation, energy security, cross-border mergers of gas transport systems and other aspects.

The heads of states will also study “the progress in the realization of the missile defense project and the principles of maintaining the openness of the Alliance” (NATO).

The Visegrad Group, created in 1991, includes the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia
