You're reading: Azarov impressed by Hollande’s economic program

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said the economic program of France's president-elect Francois Hollande appeals to him.

"I’m impressed by Hollande’s program, because we have been implementing a similar program of economic development for two years," the Ukrainian prime minister wrote on his Facebook page on Friday.

According to Azarov, the situation in Greece has shown that the recipes used by people’s parties lead to economic collapse.

"Greece’s GDP last year fell by 20%. It is hard to imagine a worse result. No better is the situation in Spain, Italy and other countries that follow the path proposed by [German Chancellor Angela] Merkel. All these countries have economic decline, growing unemployment, debt problems and the lack of any prospects," the prime minister wrote.

He said France could have found itself in similar situation.

"France could have faced the same issues, because a recession has started to develop in the French economy in the first quarter… It is therefore natural that Hollande wants to change this disastrous policy, and thus adjust economic policies across the European Union, since the EU shares a single currency," he added.

Azarov stressed that Kyiv would follow the developments in France with interest, since any recession in the European economy would affect Ukraine as well.
