Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union is unlikely to be signed until the Ukrainian opposition leaders are released from prison, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Ukraine Leigh Turner said on Channel 5.

"We saw a number of opposition leaders being tried, and it seems to many observers that the trial was politically induced, selective, and these trials do not live up to the standards of democracy and the rule of law… Until these opposition leaders are released from prison and are able to participate in the political process, the Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine is very unlikely to be signed," Turner said.

At the same time, the ambassador noted that the UK was very anxious to help Ukraine’s rapprochement with the European Union.
