You're reading: Yanukovych registered as candidate for Ukraine’s president

The Central Election Commission of Ukraine has registered Party of Regions Leader Viktor Yanukovych as a candidate for Ukraine’s president.

The CEC passed a relevant decision on Wednesday.

The Party of Regions earlier nominated Yanukovych for president at its congress.

The CEC also registered Olena Lukash as Yanukovych’s representative at the Central Election Commission.

This brings the number of registered presidential candidates to eight. Registration was earlier granted to lawyer Oleh Riabokon, Civil Position leader Anatoliy Hrytsenko, Front for Change leader Arseniy Yatseniuk, Communist Party leader Petro Symonenko and People’s Party of Ukraine leader Volodymyr Lytvyn, banker Serhiy Tigipko and lawmaker Inna Bohoslovska.

The commission is also considering another three applications for registration, as presidential candidates, including the one from incumbent President Viktor Yushchenko.
