Brussels, December 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Chairman of the Delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Cooperation Committee Pawel Kowal has been elected head of the delegation of the European Parliament's observers for the upcoming presidential election in Ukraine.

The MEP’s service reported this to Interfax-Ukraine in Brussels on Dec. 15.

Speaking about the upcoming presidential election, Kowal said: "European public opinion [has] great interest in how this election is held, and this, of course, will influence political relations between Ukraine and the European Union, including talks on an association agreement."

The delegation will include ten people, who will closely cooperate with the delegations of observers from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the Council of Europe, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).

Ambassador Heidi Tagliavini was elected head of the delegation of the OSCE ODIHR, while Joao Soares will head the delegation of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

The election of the Ukrainian president will take place on Jan. 17, 2010.
