Kyiv, December 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko believes that his political force may unite with the Front for Change Party of Arseniy Yatseniuk in favor of Yuschenko's candidacy in the January 17 Ukrainian presidential election.

Yuschenko said this on the INTER television channel’s "Big-Time Politics" program on Friday night.

When asked by Russian emigre journalist and program host Yevgeniy Kiselev if there is a chance of an electoral alliance with Yatseniuk, the president said "I assume there is."

Time will tell whether Yatseniuk is ready to withdraw his candidacy in Yuschenko’s favor, the incumbent president said, adding that he expects that common sense will prevail. When asked whether Yuschenko is ready to give up his own presidential ambitions in Yatseniuk’s favor, Yuschenko said it would make no sense.

Last week, a pro-Yuschenko group called for the withdrawal of candidates Yatseniuk, Anatoliy Hrytsenko, and Oleh Tyahnibok in favor of Yuschenko in advance of the January 17 vote.
