The National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine will send an explanation about Ukrainian legislation to the leadership of the Euronews Russian TV channel with a request that it not violate Ukrainian election legislation on the day before the second round of the presidential election, when election campaigning is prohibited.

Andriy Myroshnychenko, the first deputy head of the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting, said this at a press conference in Kyiv on Jan. 20.

"On Saturday, January 16, in fact on a day of ‘silence’ before the first round of the election, materials were broadcast on the Russian version of the Euronews TV channel that could be described as the announcement of an opinion regarding the results of the election. Effectively, information was given about who would take the first, second, third, fourth places in the presidential election in Ukraine on this channel during all news broadcasts on that day, which is directly prohibited by the law on the presidential election in Ukraine," he said.

The National Council at its sitting on Wednesday took a decision to address the leadership of the TV channel with the explanations about Ukrainian legislation "so that such a situation does not to occur on the eve of the second round of the presidential election in Ukraine."
