The Regions Party has demanded that Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko change his policy of conferring state awards, the party's press service said in a statement on Jan. 22.
"Conferring the rank of a Ukrainian hero to Stepan Bandera on Ukrainian Unity Day will not help unite Ukraine. This is a step towards a further split in the country," the statement reads.
The Regions Party said that the head of state should prove himself the president of Ukraine as a whole, and not of a part of it.
"We should do our best to bring the regions together, to bring people closer, instead of sowing new seeds of discord among the people," the Regions Party said.
