Serhiy Tigipko, who came third in the first round of the presidential election in Ukraine on Jan. 17, has said a claim made by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko that he refused to support her openly because he was afraid to lose support at the future election to local councils was incorrect.
Tymoshenko made the relevant statement at a meeting with BYT members in Ternopil on Tuesday, Feb. 2, the press service of Tigipko reported on Feb. 4.
According to Tigipko, his position, which he voiced immediately after the first round of the election on Jan. 17, is still the same.
"I respect my voters a lot, and that’s why I will not call on them to vote for this or that candidate in the second round. Both Yanukovych and Tymoshenko have had enough time and opportunities to show people their ability to rule the state. And I’m ready to accept any vote by Ukrainians, cooperate with any nationally elected president, but only if a parliamentary majority is formed that can guarantee the realization of a complex of reforms aimed at lifting the country out of the crisis and ensuring Ukraine’s dynamic economic development," he said.
