Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is considering the possibility of attending the inauguration of Ukrainian President Elect Victor Yanukovych, a representative of the Russian Embassy in Ukraine has told Interfax-Ukraine.

"He [Medvedev] has indeed been invited [to the inauguration ceremony] via the [Ukrainian] Foreign Ministry, and this issue is currently being considered," he said.

He also said that Russia was closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine, including the legal proceedings at the Higher Administrative Court of Ukraine where Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is trying to challenge the result of the country's run-off presidential election.
