A state language policy strategy proposed by Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko is aimed at destroying regional languages, first and foremost, Russian, Regions Party and Head of the Russian-Language Ukraine human rights public organization Vadym Kolesnichenko has said.

"The president yesterday [on February 22] signed a decree approving a state language policy strategy that is [strongly] criticized in Ukraine and by international and European agencies… In this case, President Yuschenko served as a political figure oriented at his radical voters, rather than a guarantor of human rights and freedoms," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.
