Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of the BYT, was elected the leader of the united democratic opposition at a meeting in Kyiv near the monument to poet Taras Shevchenko on Mar. 9.

Serhiy Sobolev, the MP from the BYT read the relevant resolution.

"The meeting decides to create the united democratic opposition," he said and put to the vote the issue of Tymoshenko's election the leader of the opposition. Participants of the meeting supported this proposal.

According to the law enforcement agencies, about 2,000 people participated in the meeting.
