The functioning of the construction industry, the development of domestic market, the revival of consumer demand, as well as achieving pre-crisis levels of industrial development are the main tasks that need to be done to stabilize the economy, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said. "We must focus all of our efforts on reviving consumer demand, and restarting the construction industry," he said at the first regular meeting of the newly elected government in Kyiv on Wednesday.

Azarov charged Vice Premier Sergiy Tigipko, Finance Minister Fedir Yaroshenko and Economy Minister Vasyl Tsushko with taking the required measures to stabilize the economy.

The prime minister noted that Ukraine must resume its previous rates of industrial development in order to achieve pre-crisis indicators.

"In the next two years we must resume the previous rates [of industrial production growth] by 7-8% annually. If we do this, then in 2012 we will be able to make up for lost time and stabilize economic development," he added.
