Lviv municipal council is demanding the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada to sack Science and Education Minister Dmytro Tabachnyk.

On March 25, all 60 members of the city council voted for such address (in all there are 90 members in the council).

"Lviv municipal council is demanding the prime minister and chairman of the Verkhovna Rada not to discredit the government, the Ukrainian education and science, and pass a decision on dismissal of Dmytro Tabachnyk from the position he occupies," the address said.

Lviv council members stress, Tabachnyk is consistent in his stance of providing Russian with the statues of second state language.

The municipal council believes Tabachnyk to be Ukrainophobe and a pro-Russian politician.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Volyn regional council, Lviv regional council, Ternopil regional council, Ivano-Frankivsk regional council, Rivne regional council, as well as Sumy municipal council and Lutsk municipal council applied to President Yanukovych, the Verkhovna Rada, and the Cabinet of Ministers with a request to dismiss Education and Science Minister Tabachnyk.

On March 19, the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea asked parliament, government and Yanukovych to keep Tabachnyk in the minister post.

On March 12, MP Viacheslav Kyrylenko of the Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense Bloc faction registered with the Ukrainian parliament a draft resolution to dismiss Tabachnyk from the ministerial post.

Deputy Parliament Speaker Mykola Tomenko, of the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko faction, expects the Ukrainian parliament to consider the draft resolution on the dismissal of Tabachnyk from the post during the next plenary session week from March 30 through April 2.

Tabachnyk was appointed as the minister on March 11.
