You're reading: Poll: Regions Party leading in rating of main political forces by wide margin

If elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine had been held this Sunday, 38.3% of voters would have supported the Regions Party and 14.5% would have voted for the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko (BYuT), according to a survey conducted by the Agency for Social Studies on May 4-11.

The results of the survey were presented at a press conference at the Interfax-Ukraine news agency on Thursday.

A total of 2,600 respondents from all Ukrainian regions participated in the poll. The survey’s margin of error does not exceed 2.3%.

Some 7.9% of those polled would have voted for Sergiy Tigipko’s Strong Ukraine and 5.4% would have backed Arseniy Yatseniuk’s Front for Change.

The Communist Party of Ukraine would have not overcome the 3% threshold, with 2.6% support from respondents.

Some 2.1% of the electorate would have voted for Viacheslav Kyrylenko’s For Ukraine, 1.6% for Svoboda (Freedom) Union, 1.2% for the Bloc of Volodymyr Lytvyn, and 0.8% for the Our Ukraine Party led by former President Viktor Yuschenko.

According to the poll, respondents mostly trust Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych (44.1%) among all Ukrainian politicians, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov (32.7%), and Sergiy Tigipko (30.8%). Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn has 9.3% support, Communist Party leader Petro Symonenko 8.6% and the former President Viktor Yuschenko 3.2%.

According to the Ukrainian Justice Ministry, 180 political parties have been registered in the country.
