You're reading: Opposition fears revision of border with Russia in Kerch Strait

Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense MP Borys Tarasiuk has said that Russia is planning to revise the Ukrainian-Russian border in the Kerch Strait, throwing into question the current border line.

"Russia wants to throw into question the line of the state border in the Kerch Strait, and actually make the waters of the Kerch Strait waters of so-called joint use," he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Monday.

Tarasiuk said that three important agreements were to be signed during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Ukraine.

He noted that the presidents of the two states would express a common position on security in the Black Sea region. In addition, they will make a statement supporting Russian’s initiatives on the creation of a new European security system, he added. The third statement will concern the settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict, he said.

Tarasiuk said that if no media attention were paid to the opposition’s position, the opposition would be obliged to call protests on the streets.
