Over 200 representatives of public organizations are picketing the Ukrainian parliament on Tuesday, July 6, in protest against the adoption of a law on the elections to local councils.

An Interfax-Ukraine reporter said that the protesters were chanting: "We will win!" "Donbas will not work."

The participants in the rally include representatives of the Civil Forum of Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv Salvation Forum, the Internet Party of Ukraine, and NGO Kharkiv Constellation.

The first deputy head of the Regions Party’s faction in parliament, Mykhailo Chechetov, came out to the protesters to find out what they demand. He noted that the law on the elections to local councils, which has already been passed at first reading, would allow nominating ordinary people for deputies and mayors of towns and cities.

As reported, on July 1, the Verkhovna Rada supported at first reading a bill on the elections to the Crimean Supreme Council, local councils, and the election of the heads of villages, towns and cities under the majority-proportional electoral system.
