Ukrainian Ambassador to Belgium Ihor Dolhov has assumed powers as the head of Ukraine's mission to North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Ukrainian News learned this from a statement by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

According to the statement, Ihor Dolhov presented his credentials to NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on July 23.

The NATO Secretary General said he respects and supports Ukraine’s course for development of pragmatic cooperation with the Alliance. He said NATO continues to support Ukraine’s reforms.

Ihor Dolhov said in his turn that Ukraine is prepared to continue and consolidate the cooperation with NATO on the principles of distinctive partnership. He confirmed the preparedness of Ukraine to receive the NATO Secretary General in Kyiv with an official visit.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych appointed Ukraine’s Ambassador to Belgium Ihor Dolhov the head of Ukraine’s mission to NATO.

Yanukovych in May 2010 dismissed Ihor Sahach from the post of the head of Ukraine’s mission to NATO.
