The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has cancelled a Concept of the State Cossacks Development Program 2009-2011, approved by Yulia Tymoshenko's government.

A corresponding decree No. 1627-r, dated August 11, was posted on the government’s official Web site on Friday.

"[This decree declares] a decree of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 1237, dated September 17, 2008 ‘On the approval of the Concept of the National Cultural Program for Development of Ukrainian Cossacks in 2009-2011’ invalid (‘Official Bulletin of Ukraine,’ 2008, No. 71, p.2393)," reads the document.

The concept envisaged conducting scientific research into the history of the Ukrainian Cossacks, the creation of scientific and popular scientific works on the history of the Cossacks, organizing scientific conferences and seminars, taking measures in the sphere of the education and upbringing of young people, the development and popularization of sports based on the Cossack traditions, the development and implementation of "Through Cossacks’ Roads" sightseeing and tourism routes, and involving Cossack organizations in maintaining public order and guarding the national borders.

According to the concept, the three-year program would be financed from the local and the national budgets and other sources envisaged by the legislation to a total amount of Hr. 38 million, including Hr. 21.5 million from the national budget and UAH 16.5 million from local budgets.
