You're reading: Tomenko: Constitutional Court will declare political reform of 2004 unconstitutional

The vice speaker of the parliament and member of the BYT, Mykola Tomenko, has said that the Constitutional Court will declare the political reform of 2004 unconstitutional.

"There is no doubt that a ruling will be almost unanimously taken [by the Constitutional Court] that the amendments [to the Constitution of Ukraine in 2004] were introduced in violation of the law," Tomenko said at a briefing in Kyiv on Monday.

Tomenko noted that the ruling by the Constitutional Court would unlikely immediately return the Constitutional of 1996.

According to the vice speaker, to legalize the ruling by the Constitutional Court at sittings of the parliament "is a more realistic decision."

Tomenko said that MPs during two sessions could introduce amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine in line with the ruling by the Constitutional Court, "which would confirm that we should live under the presidential and parliamentary form [of government]."
