Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said that Ukraine needs effective reforms, his press service reported on Wednesday.

The head of state announced this at the first meeting of the third Donbass Investment Destination international investment summit, entitled "Public-Private Partnership in the Context of Ukraine’s New Economic Policy," in Donetsk on Wednesday.

"Over the 19 years of its independence, Ukraine has got tired of endless political struggles," Yanukovych said.

He noted that all of the positive changes had been made in Ukraine due to the initiatives of work collectives and citizens, rather than "the high organization of government and public management."

"A stable environment has currently been formed in our country for the first time since it gained its independence," Yanukovych said, adding that the issue concerns, in particular, the work of the president, the government and the coalition as a united mechanism.

He said that unfortunately, over a long period of instability many citizens had lost confidence in the authorities.

"It is impossible to build a strong state without the support of the people, and our task today is to convince the Ukrainian people and the international community that Ukraine is capable of building long-term plans and implementing them," Yanukovych said, adding that the issue concerns, of course, the country’s commitment to its international partners.

The president said that it was necessary to bring order to the state and ensure political, economic and social stability in order to guarantee the effective development of the state.
