You're reading: Lytvyn: Situation in parliament remains complicated

The situation in the Ukrainian parliament remains complicated, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Lytvyn told reporters in Zakarpattia region.

The speaker noted that "everything should be brought to working order," the parliament’s press service reported on Sunday.

According to Lytvyn, the key issue for the upcoming plenary week will be the consideration of the draft Tax Code.

"This is an extremely complicated and crucial issue about which there are diametrically opposite points of view," Lytvyn said, and added that this concerns the ban on second-hand goods and the increase in the retirement age.

Asked by reporters about speaker’s personal attitude towards the possible closure of shops with second-hand goods, Lytvyn said: "Obviously, everything can not be immediately banned, it is necessary to foresee some transition stages, as a direct ban will lead to smuggling. There has to be a serious discussion about this."

According to the speaker, another important issue that the parliament has to consider is the draft state budget for 2011.
