Ukraine, Russia, and the European Union will discuss the topic of modernization of the Ukrainian gas transportation system in Brussels (Belgium) on November 22.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov announced this during a political talk show on the Inter channel on Friday evening.

"On November 22 there will be a meeting in Brussels of representatives of the European energy business… with participation of Ukraine, the European Union and Russia. This will be the first trilateral meeting and in my opinion it is likely to give answers concerning how quickly, which forces and resources will be involved, which sides will take part in the modernization of our gas transportation system," said the prime minister of Ukraine.

In the opinion of Prime Minister Azarov specific decisions on the matter of modernizing the gas transportation system of Ukraine require agreements in principle with Russia and the European Union. Thus, the meeting in Brussels can become an important step toward these agreements.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Brussels will host the Ukraine – European Union summit on November 22.

The European Commission moved forward with an initiative to hold a trilateral meeting "Ukraine – Russia – European Union" to discuss a number of joint energy projects.
