Experts notice growing electoral support to the All-Ukrainian Union Svoboda party, judging from results of the local elections, they have announced in the press centre of Ukrainian News agency at a press club meeting, entitled "PRavda about local elections in Ukraine."

"The Svoboda party has fortified its positions seriously enough. Even, put it mildly, in such a not- nationalistically loyal region as Kharkiv for a selection of positions they marginally missed the local council," marked director of an internet group Dozory (Kharkiv) Rostyslav Kasyanenko.

In his words, in several constituencies and precincts in Kharkiv percentage of Svoboda support made 2.8% or 2.9%.

In his turn, Bogush Communication President Denys Bohush thinks that counterchecking the strengthening of the Party of Regions’ hand poll numbers of such political parties as Svoboda will be growing in future, as Svoboda sets itself up as a sentinel for the Ukrainian ethnicism.

Political technologist Oleh Medvedev explains success of this party at the elections with two factors.

"I do not regard Svoboda phenomenal. This result was quite predictable and no-sensation, taking into account two factors: first, … a radical reaction of the Galicia nationalism to the Ukrainian authorities’ radical pro-Russian policy… and second, this is consequence of Batkivschyna’s non-participation in the elections in Lviv region and in the city of Ternopil," he said.

Oleh Tiahnybok is the All-Ukrainian Union Svoboda party leader.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Svoboda favours the idea of repeat elections of the mayor of Kharkiv and to Kharkiv municipal council.

Local elections took place on October 31.
