You're reading: Azarov says protests against Tax Code as ‘artificial and unreasonable’

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said that the draft Tax Code has provoked "a lot of speculation," while opening a meeting of the government on Wednesday.

"The draft Tax Code has caused so much speculation… last week we witnessed attempts to organize an entrepreneurs’ protest. In fact, those people were forced to participate in the protest, and they hadn’t even read the provisions of the Tax Code," Azarov said.

The premier also assured that the draft document envisages increase of payments for patents by 18%, and not by 5 to 10 times as had been alleged. Azarov also denied that additional penalties and sanctions would be introduced. In fact, according to him, these charges would be reduced. In addition, the premier assured that there would be no new checks of entrepreneurs introduced.
