You're reading: Yanukovych criticizes Ukraine’s pension system

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has criticized the large gap between the minimum and maximum pension in the country.

"It is unnatural that one receives a minimum pension of UAH 740, and another UAH 60,000. That’s inadmissible!" he said at a meeting of a committee on economic reform in Kyiv on Thursday.

"I appeal to all of you, we are all equal, we are all humans and we cannot disgrace the poor people so much," the president told high-ranking officials present at the meeting.

He also said that this injustice in the pension field was caused by the deliberate actions of individual politicians.

"There was a time when certain laws were pushed through the parliament," Yanukovych said.

The president added that the country needs urgent reforms, including administrative reform.
