You're reading: Political experts: Ukrainian administrative reform is copy of Russia’s, but not as successful

Political experts have said that administrative reform in Ukraine is a copy of Russian reforms and noted that bad experience seen Russia should be taken into account.

Russia "took absolutely the same decisions" in 2003-2004, President of the Open Policy Centre Ihor Zhdanov said at a press conference on December 10.

According to him, expert conclusions show that following this reform, the bureaucracy in Russia only grew.

"I still see a complete copy [in the administrative reform in Ukraine] of those steps taken in the Russian Federation," Zhdanov said.

Director of the Penta Center Volodymyr Fesenko, in turn, noted the importance of studying Russia’s experience.

"At present it necessary to review experience of Russia – why did everything happen in such a way?" he said, and noted that the main problem after administrative reform was conducted in Russia was the problem of corruption.
