Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has dismissed Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Valeriy Khoroshkovsky as a member of the Higher Council of Justice.

"Ukraine’s president dismissed Valeriy Khoroshkovsky as a member of the Higher Council of Justice as Khoroshkovsky submitted a letter of resignation," the press service of the Ukrainian president reported on Thursday.

The president appointed Khoroshkovsky a member of the Higher Council of Justice on May 31 under decree No. 644/2010.

As reported, the TVi Teleradiosvit Television and Radio Company challenged the presidential decree at the High Administrative Court. The appeal lodged by the channel reads that Khoroshkovsky’s appointment is unlawful, since according to Article 6 of the Ukrainian law on the Higher Council of Justice, the post of a member of the Higher Council of Justice can only be held by a Ukrainian citizen who has at least ten years of work experience in the field of law.

In August, the High Administrative Court rejected a request by TVi for it to declare the presidential decree unlawful.
