The BYT-Batkivschyna parliamentary faction has welcomed the initiative by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to dismiss Volodymyr Stelmakh as governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), but criticized the president's proposal to appoint Serhiy Arbuzov as a new governor of the central bank, reads a posting on the official Web site of the faction.
"Among Ukrainian bankers Arbuzov is known as an expert in the shadow conversion of currency, money laundering and the organization of tax holes. Therefore, the BYT-Batkivschyna faction believes that his work as head of the National Bank will threaten the Ukrainian banking system," reads the statement.
