You're reading: Yanukovych sacks several deputy ministers

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has dismissed a number of deputy ministers.

The texts of respective decrees were posted on the Web site of the head of state on December 28.

In particular, Valeriy Koriachkin was dismissed as deputy interior minister, Viktor Ivchenko as deputy education and science minister, Serhiy Krasnokutsky as deputy transport and communications minister and head of the State Communications Administration, and Ihor Popovych as deputy coal industry minister.

The head of state also dismissed Volodymyr Bandurov as first deputy economy minister, Vasyl Marukhin as deputy economy minister, and Svitlana Tolstoukhova as deputy family, youth and sports minister.

The head of state earlier issued a decree allowing ministers to have no more than three deputies. Until recently, the number of deputy ministers and deputy heads at certain ministries and agencies was 8-10.
