People's Self-Defense Leader Yuriy Lutsenko has challenged at the Appeal Court of Kyiv the ruling of Pechersky District court of Kyiv to put him in custody for two months as a pre-trial restriction, the party's press service reported.

"Yuriy Vitaliyovych Lutsenko doesn’t agree with the ruling of Pechersky District Court as it is ungrounded and contradicts the requirements of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and the resolution of the plenum of the Supreme Court of Ukraine," the appeal reads.

As reported, former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko was detained near his house on December 26. On December 27, the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv ordered to arrest Lutsenko for two months.

The ex-minister is being charged under Section 191 part five (conspiracy to misappropriate massive public assets through abuse of office) and Section 365 part three (abuse of office entailing grave consequences) of the Ukrainian Penal Code.
