You're reading: SBU: Ukrainian official on international wanted list detained in Germany

Police in Frankfurt, Germany, have detained a deputy of Kyiv Council and head of a permanent commission who is on the international wanted list, the press service of the Kyiv department of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported on Wednesday.

The official was detained on Jan. 6, the press service reported.

"The process of extradition of the detained person is currently taking place," reads a report.

At the same time, the Segodnia newspaper reported that the detained person is Kyiv Council Deputy Oleksiy Yevlah.

The newspaper reported that in early July 2010, Yevlah gave explanations to SBU officers in the building of Kyiv Council and after this he felt unwell and was taken to a private clinic with hypertensic crisis and acute diabetes. Then, according to his advisor Olena Makrosian, he left for Germany for treatment.

"He underwent six operations on his leg, and the last one was performed before New Year," the newspaper quoted Makrosian as saying.

She also said that neither she, nor Yevlah’s family, knew anything about the detention.
