You're reading: Opposition leader: Undemocratic Yanukovych has ruined Ukraine’s image

Ukraine's image should not suffer because of authoritarianism and incompetence of President Viktor Yanukovych and his government, deputy chairman of the Batkivschyna All-Ukrainian Association Hryhoriy Nemyria has said, commenting on Yanukovych's statement about the reasons for the deterioration of Ukraine's international image, the Batkivschyna's press service reported.

Nemyria noted that the first year of Yanukovych’s rule resulted in Ukraine’s slumping in all the international rankings for 2010.

"Yanukovych has guaranteed Ukraine the last position among European countries in the ranking of economic freedom (made by the Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal), the largest decline of democracy among all the countries of Europe in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Index of Democracy 2010, and a fall of 42 positions down in the ranking of freedom of speech, conducted by the Reporters Without Borders," Nemyria stressed.
