A group of lawmakers has drafted a bill proposing to prohibit the licensing and censorship of information distributed via the Internet.

"I very much hope that our committee (the committee for freedom of speech and information) will support this bill, and it will be considered this month," one of the authors of the bill, MP Olha Bodnar of the BYT-Batkivschyna faction, said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.

According to her, the bill proposes amending some laws of Ukraine, in particular, to supplement the provision to the law on radio and television broadcasting, which would stipulate that the distribution of video on the Internet "is not subject to licensing and censorship by the public authorities," and the law on telecommunications – that the responsibility for disseminating via the Internet child pornography and materials that are a threat to national security interests, lies with the owners of the Web site.

"The bill concerns the personal security of every citizen of Ukraine,” she said.

The bill on amending certain laws of Ukraine concerning the prohibition of licensing and censorship of information, which is distributed on the Internet, was drafted by Bodnar, Shevchenko (both of the BYT-Batkivschyna faction) and Sukhy (of the Regions Party).
