Ukrainian Vice-Premier and Social Policy Minister Sergiy Tigipko has said that the abolition of high pensions will not solve the problem of the Pension Fund's budget.

"The cancellation of high pensions won’t make much difference in the situation with the Pension Fund’s budget," he said at a meeting of representatives of Ukrainian trade union organizations in Kyiv on Monday.

At present, only 3,800 retirees receive high pensions of Hr 10,000; 800 of them are the heroes of Ukraine and the heroes of the Soviet Union, Tigipko said.

According to the vice-premier, only a comprehensive pension reform, increasing the number of employed people, the elimination of non-registered jobs and wages, and increasing salaries in the public sector can help stabilize the situation in the Pension Fund.
