You're reading: Investigators question Yuschenko for over seven hours on his alleged poisoning

Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko spent more than seven hours at the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office Investigative Department in answering questions concerning his alleged poisoning in 2004.

Interfax learned from sources with the Our Ukraine party that the ex-president had been invited by an investigator before noon on Tuesday to be questioned regarding his poisoning and stayed there for over 7 hours without a lunch break.

The Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed to Interfax-Ukraine that Yuschenko had visited the investigator as a crime victim. It refrained from saying how long the ex-president was there, saying only that he had already left the office.

Yuschenko’s previous visit to an investigator concerning his alleged poisoning on Jan. 21 lasted 2.5 hours.

It was reported earlier that, while being a presidential candidate, Yuschenko met with the top brass of the Ukrainian Security Service on Sept. 5, 2004. Soon after that, Yuschenko felt unwell and was ultimately taken to a Vienna hospital on Sept. 10.

Doctors reportedly said Yuschenko had been poisoned by dioxin about five days before his hospitalization. Yuschenko later underwent a number of tests, and his examination at the end of May 2006 confirmed the presence of a dioxin in his system.
