Former Ukrainian Vice Premier Hryhoriy Nemyria has expressed hope that top Polish officials will give a reaction to the ban on Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko's visit to Brussels.

"I hope that during the visit of [Ukrainian President Viktor] Yanukovych to Warsaw, the Polish side will appropriately evaluate Yanukovych’s actions against his opponent. Ukrainians will be attentively watching Poland’s reaction to this," the press service of the Batkivschyna Party cited Nemyria as saying on Wednesday.

According to the politician, one should not "close eyes" to the fact that "with his actions, Yanukovych and the Prosecutor General’s Office subordinated to him confirm that they are building an authoritarian system in Ukraine."

Nemyria also said he feels sorry that such bans alienate Ukraine from the European Union.

As reported, on Jan. 31, it was announced that the investigator in charge of particularly important cases of the Prosecutor General’s Office had rejected Tymoshenko’s request to visit Brussels.

On Feb. 2, Tymoshenko said that the investigator of the Prosecutor General’s Office again asked her to give a written undertaking not to leave Kyiv.

Nemyria held the position of the vice premier on European integration in the government headed by Tymoshenko.

As reported, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych will hold a state visit to Poland on Feb. 3-4.
