You're reading: Azarov vows to increase scholarships for students

The scholarships of students studying at vocational schools and universities will be increased, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said at a government meeting on Wednesday, the media liaisons office of the government's secretariat has reported.

"The government is continuing to conduct a policy of raising social standards. And all social spending in 2011 will be financed in full," he said.

Azarov said the students of vocational schools would have their scholarships increased to Hr 280 and that in 2011 the additions to their scholarships would total Hr 300.

"There will be a so-called ’13th scholarship’ similar to a ’13th salary,’" he added.

He noted that scholarships for the students of higher educational establishments of the first and second levels of accreditation would be increased to Hr 560 in 2011 (and an additional Hr 600) and for those studying at higher educational institutions of the third and fourth levels of accreditation – to Hr 742 (plus an additional Hr 800).

Azarov said that scholarships would also grow for orphans and children deprived of parental care – for those studying at vocational schools to Hr 866 and at universities to Hr 1,453.
